There is no set time to schedule that first appointment. Many children require simple straightening of the teeth and may not need braces until junior high school. For children who have problems with crowded teeth or need the bones in the face or mouth redirected, orthodontic treatment is being recommended at increasingly younger ages. Reshaping bones is best accomplished at an early age instead of waiting until the teen years, when bone structure is much more difficult to alter.
But even adults who realize they can correct lifelong problems of chewing, swallowing, even snoring are increasingly visiting the orthodontist. You need not be 10-years-old for us to recommend that you consult an orthodontist.
